AT A GLANCE:
  • On Chief’s Island
  • Award-winning
  • Large, luxury tented rooms
  • High quality chef
  • Excellent elevated deck for game viewing from the lodge

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT IT:

Chief’s Camp is located on Chief's Island, an area known for its high concentration of game. It is a premier and luxurious lodge in the Mombo Concession of the Moremi Game Reserve, which it shares with only one other luxury camp.

Chief's Camp comprises 12 very spacious luxury rotundas; each room is fully equipped for a luxury stay, with king or twin beds, spacious indoor and outdoor seating areas, private game viewing decks with a hammock, an outdoor plunge pool and both indoor and outdoor showers. Camps decor is somewhat minimalist and modern while keeping a game-lodge feel, which we like.

Named after Chief Moremi, Chief’s Camp is ideal for an exhilarating African safari due to the vast numbers of animals that congregate in this area all year round. Game drives are available in the morning or afternoon and are guided by professional, knowledgeable guides to assist you to see much game - including both black and white rhino. Mokoro trips along the river are a great way to see animals from the water, in season.

Fine cuisine and top class wines have ensured that the camp is consistently rated as one of the top safari camps in Botswana by Condé Nast and Travel & Leisure.

The standouts for us here are two fold: Firstly, the lodge has an excellent deck in the main area. Our advice is to skip a game drive or two and sit on one of the comfy deck side sofas, watching the wildlife show play out around the water in front of the camp. Secondly, the camp is clearly well managed - management know what they're doing, and it shows. If you're looking for a generous and luxurious space with great wildlife experiences and top-notch organisation, it's an excellent choice.

Helicopter Game Viewing over the Okavango
Helicopter Game Viewing over the Okavango - Robert Mark Safaris - Luxury African SafarisSee the Okavango Delta and its herds of game from a whole new perspective - one that can only be enjoyed by the select few.

Low level eco-conscious flying in a helicopter, will give you a birds eye perspective of the nature surrounding you. See herds of game protecting each other through strength in numbers, and solitary animals surviving on instinct and stealth. Witness from above, the dynamic between the hunter and the hunted, how they move around each other, and the vast savannas and swamplands that they live in.
