WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT IT:
Located in the Mathews Mountain Forest and Kitich Camp is one of the most unique places to stay for a safari adventure.
Described by the BBC as a ‘biological bonanza’, Mathews Mountain Range is one of the better places in Kenya to discover Africa’s wildlife on foot. This unique camp has been built among the trees with each tent overlooking the lush gorge of the Ngeng River. As the camp only has a small number of tents, all meals are served together in the main camp dining area that overlooks the lush river glade.
Guests are encouraged to explore the wild surroundings on foot guided by the Ndorobo Samburu guides. The rare De Brazza Monkey can be spotted in the Mathews Forest as well as the Melanistic leopard, also known as the ‘black panther.’ Game viewing from Kitich Camp is productive, with frequent sightings of forest elephant as well as lion and wild dog.
As the sun goes down Kitich Camp offers night camp viewing, from a cozy lounge overlooking the river clearing, where guests can view the wildlife emerge from the forest to drink.
We like Kitich Camp is a lodge for those who are a little more active, enjoy walks and exploring the area on foot. We think it makes for a good ‘balancing’ location on longer trips to Kenya, where this area offers an excellent add-on to areas such as The Maasai Mara.
