WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT IT:

Gibb’s Farm overlooks the Ngorongoro Forest, the Karatu valley, and the Great Rift Valley further beyond that. This is a sanctuary to travelers rather than a safari property, and is famed in Tanzania for its laid-back and homely atmosphere.

Each of the guest cottages is decorated in a simplistic yet comfortable style, allowing guests to sit back and relax. Gibb’s Farm is surrounded by a lush flower garden that is seething with bird life. The farm has an organic vegetable garden where guests can enjoy leisurely walks and afternoon tea.

Guests can immerse in the day-to-day farm life at Gibb’s Farm, from starting their day with early morning bread making to harvesting vegetables alongside the chefs. Activities are plentiful in the area however Gibb’s Farm is a home away from home that allows its guests to sit back and relax in between their safari adventure.

We like Gibb's Farm for its wholly refreshing approach. It is well suited to those who have an extensive safari itinerary or are looking for a more diverse experience of Africa overall than only seeing wildlife. It is an excellent choice for those looking for a wholesome experience and want to stay in homely accommodation nearby Tanzania’s adventures in the Ngorongoro highlands; guests who are more looking for a relaxed vacation rather than box-ticking the crater. It is outside the conservation area - so expect a little village hustle and bustle on the way through nearby Karatu - but the farm itself is a sanctuary. Scenery is impressive all around the area and drives can still be done to and inside the conservation area as well as to the floor, for those that would like to make the descent. Being outside the NCAA allows it to be a working coffee plantation, and its range of activities is both a contrast and a compliment to your safari journey.
